JIPSD Election--Vote on November 4

The election for the James Island Public Service District Commission is on Tuesday, November 4.

Four of the seven seats are up for election, so each voter can choose up to four candidates.

The JIPSD collects nearly half of the typical home owner's property tax.  They are responsible for providing fire protection and solid waste collection in the Town.   The JIPSD also provides sewer services and sets sewer fees in the Town.

Town Council has no control over these taxes, fees or services.   The JIPSD Commissioners make these decisions.

It is very important for all Town voters to make a wise selection on the JIPSD portion of the ballot.

1.Inez Brown Crouch

I strongly endorse the reelection of Inez Brown Crouch.   She has a record of cooperation with the Town.   I believe we can count on her to cooperate with our effort to reunite the Town, to provide tax relief, as well as support a joint administrative facility.

There are 7 challengers who will also work with the Town.   They all are qualified, though with different strengths.   If you click on the name, you will find out more.

There are only 4 seats, so I am very concerned about splitting the vote.   There are three other seats and six candidates.  How much name recognition does each have?   How hard is each one campaigning?    Those sorts of concerns will play an important role when I enter the voting booth.

2..Lyndy Palmer
3. Mary Beth Berry
4. Hal Hanvey
5. Marilyn Clifford
6 .Bill "Cubby" Wilder
7. Ernie Duncan

I have seen yard signs from Lyndy Palmer, Mary Beth Berry, Cubby Wilder, and Ernie Duncan.   Lyndy Palmer, Mary Beth Berry, Hal Hanvey, Cubby Wilder, and Marilyn Clifford came to the JIPSD meeting last Monday.   I understand that Mary Beth Berry and Hal Hanvey are going door to door--though maybe others are as well.

I cannot support any of the following candidates.  They cannot be counted on to work with the Town.

8. Robert Schurmeier
9. Donald Hollingsworth
10. Sandi Engelman
11. Kay Kernodle
