Hal Hanvey: Candidate for JIPSD Commissioner



Hal Hanvey lives in the Stiles Point neighborhood in the Town of James Island.   He has lived on James Island for 22 years.

Hal received a BA in Agronomy and a Masters in Agricultural Mechanization from Clemson University.   He has been the Farm Manager at the Clemson University Coastal Research and Education Center for 22 years.    He has been a certified Crop advisor since 2012 and is working to return rice cultivation to the Lowcountry.


Hal was honorably discharged in 1999 from A Company of the 122nd Engineer Battalion, having served 14 years, reaching the rank of Sergeant E5.   

Hal is a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and has served on its Board of Trustees for 9 years.   He is on the Board of James Island Outreach.   He has served as a Poll Manager for many years.    He serves as an Associate Commissioner on the Charleston County Soil and Water Commission.

He and his wife, Jean have four children and three grandchildren.
