Bill "Cubby" Wilder: Candidate for JIPSD Commissioner



Bill "Cubby" Wilder was born and raised in the Sol Legare Community on James Island.   This area is not included in the current incorporation of the Town, but the Town is seeking its return.

Cubby was one of the founding fathers of the Town of James Island, helping to achieve the first incorporation in 1992.  He was elected to the James Island Town Council in 2002 and was reelected in 2004.   When the third incorporation began in 2006, he was again elected to Council and served an additional term from 2008 to 2010.    While on Council, he served as Mayor Pro-tem and chaired the Parks and Recreation Committee.  

He is a graduate of Gresham Meggett High School on James Island.  He attended Voorhees College, earned an Associate Degree in Logistical Management from the Community College of the Air Force, and a Bachelors of Science in Vocational Education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois.

He served in the United States Air Force for 25 years, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant (E-8.)

Since retiring from the Air Force, he has served as Assistant Manager for Kids Stop at Harborview Elementary, Director of the Saint James Presbyterian Church Afterschool/Summer Camp Program, and, for ten years, a Teacher's Assistant for Charleston County Schools.

He was founder and President of the Sol Legare Community Foundation and a founder and Vice CEO of the Saint James Presbyterian Foundation.   H3 is founding member of Abandoned Historic Black Cemeteries.   He is a Team Leader with the Charleston Area Justice Ministry.

He is a member of St. James Presbyterian Church, where he has served as an Elder and a Service Chairperson Trustee.

He is a father and grandfather.
