Gun Shops on Folly Road. Will the Town Prohibit Them?

The public hearing on the Folly Road Overlay District will be on October 17 and a first reading is scheduled.   The recommendation from the Planning Commission includes a prohibition on gun shops on Folly Road.   This was revisited by the Planning Commission and they voted 3 to 2 to keep the ban.    I plan to propose striking gun shops from the list of prohibited uses at first reading.   I believe Councilmen Blank and Mullinax will join me.   Where do Councilman Kernodle and Councilwoman Berry stand?   We will find out.

Please come to the Town Council meeting and speak out in opposition to this effort to keep gun shops off of Folly Road.

  1. We have the right to keep and buy arms... If any legislator infringes on our constitutional rights they should be voted out of office.

  2. I agree with Mr. Mintz. Who do these people think they are to make their personal hang ups law? They surely don't represent me!

  3. Sorry, but no bordellos allowed in residential areas.

In truth, sexually oriented businesses aren't allowed in community commercial areas, which is what the area around Folly and Camp is right now.

The Town's current zoning says nothing about gun shops. They are treated like sporting goods stores, but that is really just like any other retail shop.

If the overlay passes with this ban on gun shops included, then this would be an additional prohibition that would just apply along Folly Rd. Gun shops would still be allowed in the area around Town Hall.
